Musicians from Ukraine and Latvia in a vocal music concert “Angiol di pace” in Brussels

On 3 May 2023 Kyiv Philharmonic’s soloist Anna Labut (Анна Лабуть, mezzo-soprano), Latvian opera singer Nauris Indzeris (baritone) and Latvian pianist Helēna Laukmane invite you to a vocal music concert dedicated to the peace in Ukraine.

The concert programme “Angiol di pace” (“Angel of Peace”) was created a year ago when, at the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian singer Anna Labut and her little daughter took refuge in Latvia. In this existential crisis, it was essential for Anna to find contact with other musicians and to continue to express through music what cannot be expressed in words. Luckily, she was able to develop a creative collaboration with Latvian musicians Helēna Laukmane and Nauris Indzeris, and they decided to bring their music to audiences across the country. During the spring and summer 2022, this unique concert programme was performed in 15 Latvian churches.

“Music brings forth miracles. It heals and strengthens wounded souls, gives power to fight injustice and evil in the world. It provides hope when one is surrounded by destruction. As long as music is alive, so are we!” (A. Labut)

St. Augustin famously wrote: “Qui cantat, bis orat” – he who sings, prays twice". This is also the view of the artists themselves, who will be reuniting for concerts in Brussels and Luxembourg for the first time after Anna Labut’s return to Kyiv, where rehearsals still often take place by candlelight when there is no electricity.

The programme will feature works by West European, Latvian and Ukrainian composers, as well as Ukrainian folk songs, weaving together spirituality, consolation, love, hope and forgiveness.

Admission to the concert is free, voluntary donations are welcome.

MUSICIENS UKRAINIENS ET LETTONS AU CONCERT DE CHANTS « ANGIOL DI PACE » À BRUXELLES

À la cathédrale de la Sainte-Trinité (The Pro-Cathedral of Holy Trinity), Rue Capitaine Crespel 29, 1050 Ixelles.

Nous vous invitons à assister à un concert de chants « Angiol di pace » dédié à la paix en Ukraine, auquel participeront des musiciens ukrainiens et lettons – la soliste de la Philharmonie de Kiev Anna Labuta (mezzo-soprano), le chanteur d’opéra Nauris Indzeris (baryton) et la pianiste Helēna Laukmane, qui jouera également de l’orgue.

Le programme de concert « Angiol di pace » a été créé il y a un an, lorsque, au début de la guerre en Ukraine, la chanteuse ukrainienne Anna Labuta et sa fille avaient trouvé refuge en Lettonie, où Anna a développé une coopération créative avec les musiciens lettons Helēna Laukmane et Nauris Indzeris. Le programme de ce concert « Angiol di pace » a été présenté dans 15 églises lettones au printemps et à l’été derniers.

Il en va de même pour les artistes eux-mêmes qui seront unis avec les audiences bruxelloises et luxembourgeoises ce printemps dans cette prière pour la paix. Le programme présentera des compositions vocales de compositeurs d’Europe occidentale, lettons et ukrainiens de différentes époques qui combinent spiritualité, confort, amour humain, espoir et pardon.
